Southwest Airlines has been working to expand its flight routes nationally and internationally, reaching an impressive 121 destinations in 11 countries at the time of publication. Despite this expansion and increasing industry costs, Southwest remains unique among US airlines, charging no fees for checked baggage or ticket changes.

By maintaining this spirit of generosity, the airline is also enhancing the benefits of its line of five Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® credit cards. To celebrate, Southwest is also launching its best introductory offers: up to 100,000 points on select cards. Here is why you should apply for a Southwest credit card now.

Reasons to rejoice

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about Southwest’s best welcome offers. First, Southwest Rapid Rewards points are loosely tied to dollar value – each point is worth between 1.3 and 1.45 cents when redeemed for the airline’s cheapest “Wanna Get Away” fares. This means that a 100,000 Rapid Rewards point bonus is worth approximately $ 1,300 to $ 1,450 on Southwest flights. Cha Ching!

Second, the big introductory bonuses make it easier to obtain the Ultra Valuable Southwest Companion Pass, which allows pass holders to travel to Southwest with a companion for free (in addition to mandatory taxes). Obtaining a Companion Pass requires 100 qualifying one-way flight segments or the accumulation of 125,000 qualifying points. Fortunately, welcome bonuses count as qualifying points.

Third, some great new perks have been bundled into Southwest’s five branded cards. Depending on the card, these benefits may include bonus points for qualifying spending in certain categories, free EarlyBird check-in passes on Southwest flights (subject to availability), and annual fee credits for point transfers. Rapid Rewards. Best of all, these improvements happen without increasing annual fees.

Different Southwest branded credit cards, similar names

In pop culture, you have to deal with the Kardashians. . . all having a first name beginning with “K”. Likewise, in the world of points, we struggle with all Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards beginning with a “P”: Plus, Premier, Priority, Premier Business and Performance Business. Confusing, we know, but it’s worth getting to know them, starting with the three personal credit cards: Plus, Premiere, and Priority.

The difference between each “P” is the annual fee and the benefits package. As part of the card update, the three personal cards now award two points per dollar spent on purchases of local public transport and commuting (including carpooling), Internet, cable, services phone calls and some streaming purchases. Plus, all three personal cards have the exact same welcome offer to earn up to 100,000 points. You will earn 50,000 points after spending $ 2,000 on purchases in the first three months of opening your account, plus 50,000 points after spending $ 12,000 on purchases in the first 12 months.

On the other hand, the three cards grant different earnings on purchases from Southwest Airlines and promise different annual benefits, such as account anniversary bonuses. Below are the three personal cards with the most relevant new and existing information and benefits.

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card

  • Welcome offer: Earn up to 100,000 points as described above.
  • Annual subscription : $ 99
  • Earnings on purchases: Same as the Plus Card, except three points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases.
  • Main advantages of the South West: 2 EarlyBird registrations per year; an account anniversary bonus of 6,000 points per year.

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Priority Credit Card

  • Welcome offer: Earn up to 100,000 points as described above.

With these best welcome offers, there’s never been a better time to apply for Southwest credit cards. At present, all the personal card is a smart choice. Which one you choose depends on how much value you place on the income structure and the main advantages over annual fees. We favor the top of the range Priority card for its many benefits and credits, but those new to a Southwest credit card may feel more comfortable with the Plus Card, which has a nominal annual fee of $ 69, but still earns $ 1,300 to $ 1,450 on Southwest flights after earning the 100,000 Rapid Rewards point bonus.

Plus, the timing for high introductory deals on personal and business cards puts Southwest’s coveted Companion Pass, essentially a free ticket for a traveling companion on each flight, right at your fingertips.

While the offers mentioned above are accurate at the time of posting, they are subject to change at any time and may have changed or may no longer be available.
